Dr. Mickey Parish served as the Senior Science Advisor at FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition in College Park, MD until his retirement in 2020. In this role, he provided oversight of the FDA food safety research portfolio including issues related to science and research policy. Prior to coming to FDA, Dr. Parish was Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Maryland, College Park (2005-2010) and was previously on the faculty at the University of Florida as a food microbiologist (1986-2005). In graduate school, Dr. Parish studied the fermentation of eastern wines including hybrids, muscadines, and viniferas. He has served as a judge on regional wine competitions since the 1990s.
