Kathy Wiedemann has been pursuing the study of wine for over 10 years now. She is enrolled in the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma (WSET IV) program which is a 6-unit program and she is currently working on her 3rd unit. She holds the WSET advanced certification (WSET III), Certified Sherry Wine Specialist, and Wines of Portugal ‘Academia do Vinho’ Level 3 Advanced Certification. She is active in a local American Wine Society chapter, attends many educational wine conferences, and continues her wine studies through tastings and classes through Capital Wine School and Guild Somm among other organizations.
Based on Kathy’s knowledge and passion for wine, especially from her home state of Virginia, she was invited to be a judge in the 2022 Virginia’s Governor’s Cup competition. She was both honored and flattered, as she is to be invited to participate in the 2022 Maryland’s Governor’s Cup judging.
Kathy Wiedemann considers herself an enthusiastic advocate for local wine both in the real and social media worlds. She has actively participated in many online wine tastings for #vawinechat, #ecwinechat, #winestudio, and others. Between 2012 and 2019, she worked weekends in VA tasting rooms educating customers across the tasting bar and through wine classes that she designed and taught. In 2018, Kathy was named the Loudoun County Wine Ambassador of the Year by the Loudoun Wine Awards.
From fall of 2018 through spring of 2022, Kathy served as a board member of the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association assisting with expansion of the association’s social media presence in promoting east coast wine.
In addition to her studies and passion for wine, Kathy writes a weekly wine blog for wine shop City Vino located in Fredericksburg, VA and has done so approaching 4 years.
