The past 12 days have been a fabulous celebration of local wine and the businesses who pour them! Thanks to all who participated, and look for news about next years dates!!
Maryland’s wine industry is absolutely bustling, and we are ecstatic to announce the first ever Maryland Wine Week where local restaurants and retailers will be featuring “Free State” wines––the wines grown right in our own back yard.
Check back here to see a listing of events, designed to celebrate Maryland Wine! Learn about the winemaker dinners, special wine pairings and tastings around the state. See which local restaurants and wine shops are participating in your neighborhood.
Maryland is uniquely situated on the East Coast, with three different types of land––coastal, plains, and mountainous––all providing themselves to farmers and vintners in order to create an incredibly diverse selection of wines.
The timing of Maryland Wine Week is perfect for when local produce is ripe and local wine is ready to be uncorked and paired with your favorite summer foods.
Interested restaurants and wine shops can email email@example.com for details about becoming a partner.
Governor O’Malley has named June 3-12 Maryland Wine Week with an official Proclamation:
With the support of the Office of Tourism Development & Department of Business and Economic Development, Maryland wineries have brought in over $17 million in taxable revenue and brought thousands of tourists to this great state; and
With the support of the Maryland Department of Agriculture, grapes grown in Maryland keep green space green, are good for the Chesapeake Bay, and encourage the diversification of farms and crops; and
Local wine is a sustainable product, that with the support of the State of Maryland, its residents, retailers and restaurants, could become a leading industry with exponential growth.
NOW THEREFORE, I, MARTIN O’MALLEY, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim June 3-12, 2011 as MARYLAND WINE WEEK, and do commend this celebration to all of our citizens.
